Eaten Alive is a TV show that was broadcast on November 27, 1977 and aired in Australia and Canada. The show was hosted by naturalist David Attenborough. David returns to the rainforest after an absence of three years, to study ways of conserving biodiversity, and how human settlements are threatening many species there. He talks about the need to find land for such creatures as geese and porcupines which have been forced off their habitat by man's encroachment. Finally the film visits a turtle farm where turtles are raised for export abroad because they can't be caught elsewhere.
David Attenborough returns to the rainforest after three years, where he talks about how local people are being pushed out of their homes by settlers. He explores the rainforest, meeting wildlife along the way.
A part of the documentary in which David Attenborough comments on his experiences in the Amazon, tells of how he had to turn his back when a snake ate its prey, and talks about how local people are being pushed out of their homes by settlers who are destroying the forest in order to make room for building settlements or farms. After they move on this results in soil erosion and when there is no more topsoil, nothing can grow there anymore.
It takes Attenborough across the Amazon rainforest. He talks about the turtles that are bred in farms in order to be eaten by humans. After the lesson is over, they visit a turtle farm where he talks with workers about their day-to-day job and why they need to work in it.
It's night in the Amazon when Attenborough finds a tiger in its den, drinking milk from his camcorder when it comes out of its den to investigate what made the noise. The next day he finds it asleep on some sand when he finds out that tigers don't like drinking milk straight from the camcorder’s lens; he had to use his handkerchief afterwards.
The song “Stand by Me” plays during this segment. Attenborough is seen in a boat with other workers on their job,when he sits down to rest, a crab crawls over his feet and starts eating something that Attenborough was eating earlier. He then points to the crab and tells the others that a crab has eaten a snake that was trying to eat something else. Attenborough then shows them a picture of the snake while he talks about how it must have been terrified while being eaten by the crab.
During this segment David Attenborough comes across another tiger playing in its den amongst some bamboo. When Attenborough says if they were to get out it would be a great sight for us all to see, one of the workers points out that they don't have electricity so there wouldn't be any way of making it possible. All the workers at the farm ask David Attenborough how he can have electricity when he is in a place without it.
The segment takes place in a cage that is a swimming pool and shows that crabs can swim, while Attenborough explains about the behavior of crabs.
